State Funds Bentley Apartments
CDCSB’s 100 Bridge Street Affordable Housing Development

(July 26, 2018) Great Barrington, MA — The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has awarded approximately $15.4 million in funding to the Community Development Corporation of South Berkshire (CDCSB) for Bentley Apartments at 100 Bridge Street, Great Barrington. These funds will provide the final financing for the $17.2 million project that will build 45 new affordable rental units and simultaneously remediate the entire 8-acre site along the Housatonic River in downtown Great Barrington. Construction is expected to begin in late spring or early summer of 2019.

“This is a major step forward not only for the affordable housing component of the site, but for the 100 Bridge Street project as whole, a cornerstone of the CDC’s work over the last decade,” said CDCSB’s Executive Director, Tim Geller.

The Bentley Apartment complex represents phase one of CDCSB’s ongoing plans to create much needed affordable homes and a center for economic growth in Great Barrington. The new units will include one, two, and three-bedroom apartments for families with incomes of up to $48,000, offering rental apartments at significantly lower than market-rates.

In February, CDCSB submitted the funding application to DHCD in partnership with Berkshire Housing Development Corporation, the project’s co-sponsor. Other development team members are Dietz and Company Architects, Inc. in Springfield, MA and MBL Housing and Development in Amherst, MA.
