Annual Town Census Information
The Board of Registrars is required by State Statute to verify and update the name, address, age, and occupation of all residents in preparation for the Annual Street List. Compliance with this State requirement provides proof of residence to each resident to protect voting rights, veterans' bonus, housing for the elderly, as well as providing information for the selection of jurors.
Census Form Filling
A full and accurate count of all residents is very important for many reasons including the basis for allocation of State and Federal Funding. Emergency Personnel, as well as other municipal departments, also use the Street List as an aid in the daily performance of their duties. The census form does not register you to vote, nor does it allow you to change your party affiliation or change your voting address. If you are a registered voter, failure to answer this annual census may result in your name being removed from the voting list.
The Town Clerk's Office sends out the Annual Census in the mail by the end of December for each calendar year. This census packet also includes a dog license application for those dog owners who need to license their dogs for the upcoming year. If you just moved to Town or you lost your form, you can fill out the form that can be mailed to the Town of Great Barrington, Town Clerk's Office, 334 Main Street, Great Barrington, MA 01230. You may also drop your form off during business hours at Town Hall, or outside in the Town Clerk dropbox, anytime. Completed forms can also be scanned and jrisen@townoggbma.gov
