From the Massachusetts Department of Transportation:

"This advisory is to let member communities know that MassDOT Rail and Transit has awarded RailWorks Track Systems Inc. a construction contract to replace 45,000 railroad ties on the Berkshire Line.

This 37-mile line was acquired by the MBTA in 2014 from the Housatonic Railroad Company and runs from the border of Connecticut to Pittsfield, Massachusetts.

Work is anticipated to begin in Pittsfield and move southerly through the towns of Lenox, Lee, Stockbridge, Great Barrington, and Sheffield. Beginning in late-October 2019, crews will work during the daytime hours of 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M, Monday through Saturday.

All work will be contained within the railroad right-of-way and should not affect public roadways. This work is expected to be completed by mid-December 2019.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We appreciate your patience as we take this important step to improve the tracks for future service.
