Elder Law Basics, Saving on Prescriptions and HospiceCare Intro: May Events at the Teague Center

The Claire Teague Center hosts a series of educational talks in May for seniors, their families, friends and caregivers. All are welcome to attend these free events at the Teague Center, 917 South Main St.

On Thursday, May 9, 4 p.m. attorney Paula Almgren will present Elder Law Basics, a ​workshop ​to inform seniors of their Medicare rights ​in accessing ​​skilled nursing, community-based health care and home care assistance. She will also ​cover how to obtain VA benefits​ that enable veterans and their spouses to remain at home with assistance.​ She will also ​share information about five key estate planning documents​ that seniors of all income levels should have in place.​

On Wednesday, May 15, at 12:30 p.m. a representative of HospiceCare in the Berkshires will host a talk about HospiceCare: Planning Ahead. Topics include MOLST (Medical Orders for Life-Sustaining Treatment), end-of-life directives and creating a "Five Wishes" document. Interested in learning more about HospiceCare of the Berkshires? On Thursday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m., seniors can learn Prescription Advantage, a state-based prescription drug program that can help patients save money on prescription drug costs. This free plan works with Medicare Part D, for state residents whose income is less than $37,470 (single) or $50,730 (married).
