Great Barrington Senior Tax Work-Off Program Accepting Applicants

Are you a Great Barrington resident 60 years of age or older? Do you have time and skills you can offer the Town? Sharing your time and talents may allow you to reduce your property tax bill by up to $1,500 in the next fiscal year.

All residents aged 60+ are eligible to apply regardless of income level. Participants will earn the equivalent of the State’s current minimum wage for each hour worked. Earnings between September and August will be applied as a credit of up to $1,500 on the next years’ property tax bill.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Anyone interested in submitting an application, or following up on a pending application, should contact Josh Risen at jrisen@Townofgb.org or Natalie Amendola at namendola@Townofgb.org.

A link to the application can be found below. Application documents are also available at Town Hall in the Selectboard/Town Manager’s office. Once submitted the application will be reviewed by Town Department Heads who may request more information or an interview. Availability of hours is subject to needs of the Town, all applicants may not be selected for participation. 

Examples of skills/tasks include:

  • Computer/Technology: scanning, archiving, digitizing files, data entry
  • General clerical: answering phones, filing, stuffing envelopes, taking minutes
  • Library shelving, delivering books Gardening and Landscaping
  • Indoor and Outdoor Maintenance
