Department of Public Works
The Department of Public Works is comprised of the following four divisions: Highway, Cemetery/Parks, Building Maintenance and Wastewater Treatment.
The Highway Division provides safe and maintained highways, sidewalks and drainage systems for the residents of Great Barrington. They provide necessary services through planning and cost-effective measures.
The Cemetery Division maintains approximately 140 acres of cemeteries (7) parks and green areas on a regular and timely basis. They provide grave opening services as requested and they assist the Highway and Public Buildings Divisions as required during winter maintenance activities.
The Public Buildings Division maintains the public buildings within the Town of Great Barrington in a manner that provides a safe and clean working space for the staff that occupies them. They make repairs to the buildings in a timely manner and provide daily maintenance services as planned and required.
The Wastewater Division maintains the wastewater treatment facilities and sanitary sewer collection systems in the Town of Great Barrington in a safe and efficient manner. They provide daily maintenance services as required and provide timely response to customer concerns and complaints. They also assist the Highway Division with maintenance activities as needed. They meet all State and Federal requirements for the operation of the facility.
